Here's how I made that skateboard up there!
Everything was once a sketch, you gotta start somewhere, right? Above are just a couple sketches I used while modeling the deck and the trucks. Sketches use a number of tools, such as the line tool, rectangle tool, and circle tool. These tools are super important to actually make sketches. One way I got stuck here was when when I was using the use tool to use a point from another sketch in my sketch, the other sketch was accidentally hidden, so I had to unhide it in order to find the point. Otherwise though, even with being new to the software, things were pretty smooth sailing.
Sketches are... sketches. To make a solid object you use tools like extrude to (guess what) extrude. After you extrude (or revolve, there's a few tools that make stuff from sketches), you can add detail by using tools such as fillet for example, which rounds edges. Above is the fully extruded and filleted truck baseplate, hanger, and bushing!
Above you can see the sketch of the wheel and the solid wheel (and bearing). You might've noticed the little numbers and arrows on the sketch, those are dimensions (miiight be obvious). Dimensions are important in order to fully constrain your sketch. I also made a bearing for the wheel, this will be important when attaching the wheel to the board. Speaking of!
After all the parts were made, I used screws and nuts to attach everything together. Most of the parts only required a fastened mate, but the wheels used a revolute mate, which means they spin! You might've noticed the little text on the wheels, that was just to check if they would actually spin because the material was too smooth to tell. After everything was put together, I changed the appearence colors a bit to make the skateboard a bit cooler :)
Now I have a cool skateboard!!! (awesome)
Overall, this was a pretty cool experience for me. I've used 3d software before on my own but never CAD, and it's kind of cool (and a bit tedious, but mostly cool) that everything is so precise. It was definitely very satisfying when I finished and I definitely feel a lot more comfortable in the software now.
